Overview of FCCM Sports & Recreation

The Federation of Chinese Canadians in Markham (F.C.C.M.) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the provision of services to the Chinese community and the integration of Chinese Canadians into the mainstream of Canada. Established in 1989, F.C.C.M. was formally incorporated on May 22, 1992. It is managed by a volunteer Board of Directors.

Since its establishment, F.C.C.M. has been actively working towards its goals through a variety of social, cultural, and business activities, not only to assist the Chinese, but also to promote a better understanding between the Chinese people and the many ethnic groups of the Canadian society. To facilitate the planning of the many aspects of its work, the F.C.C.M. network is divided into four main divisions, namely the Markham Chinese Seniors Association, the Chinese Canadian Sports and Recreation Club of Markham, the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Markham, and the Markham Chinese Cultural Centre.

The Chinese Canadian Sports and Recreation Club of Markham, is formed with the focus of offering various sports and social activities. Basketball is one of the more popular programs and active members in the program has joined together and formed a team to participate in friendship games and tournaments. The success of the team attracted attention of other basketball enthusiast and more experienced players who volunteered to assist in the program. Between 2002 and 2004, the basketball group has organized and participated in a number of tournaments and received overwhelming recognition within the local basketball community.

With the hard works of dedicated members in past years, we have established ourselves as an active member in both local and international basketball community. We also felt that if we can operate formally as a functional unit of FCCM, we can take our basketball program to the next level.

Our ultimate goal is bringing an international basketball event to Markham one day and we are confident that this is an achievable goal with strong support from FCCM and the City of Markham.
